Donna Read, MA

Donna Read is an international leadership consultant, a professional certified coach, and a registered psychotherapist in the State of Colorado. She has worked almost exclusively with international development program leaders, teams and U.S. Foreign Service staff. As a leadership coach, Donna works with leaders to help them identify what types of leadership skills are needed for which teams at what stage of team development and also supports them during transition from one project to another.  She strongly believes that leadership should follow an integral path, which requires leaders to be aware of the situational influences on their teams and be thoroughly comfortable in adopting the style of leadership required to insure optimal performance throughout the life of the project.

Donna has completed her coursework for a Ph.D. in Organizational Systems Psychology, is preparing her dissertation on international field team leadership, and has worked extensively with organizations and teams in turmoil.  She is certified in Human Systems Dynamics (Eoyang) as well as in Social + Emotional Intelligence (Belsten) and has trained in the Shifting Culture model (Wolterstroff) to bring teams through crisis and trauma.  In addition, Donna holds a M.A. in Clinical Psychology and has broad experience helping individuals and groups recover from critical incident and chronic stress as well as PTSD.  She is thoroughly experienced in the somatic healing of trauma (Levine and Wolterstroff), which she has used to stabilize and heal foreign assistance and humanitarian workers both in the field and returning to home office. She has also completed Headington Institute’s training in healing field staff acute stress. As an Organization Development Specialist, Donna applies assessments in her work to thoroughly understand both the cultural environment and leadership orientation (Schein).   She is trained in several Center for Creative Leadership assessments as well as Social and Emotional Intelligence assessment, DSCC, Jungian organizational archetypes, Appreciative Inquiry and Open Space Technology.  Her work is anchored in the belief that good delivery of foreign assistance begins with the identification and recruitment of teams and ends with project closure and its related activities to insure smooth transition for both national and international staff. Donna has worked extensively in development project management for USAID, the Department of State and the World Bank.  Her geographic experience includes Asia, Africa, Europe, and the Middle East. She is a native speaker of English, has native fluency in French and is conversant in Arabic.
